After looking at the less than impressive Bumbershoot Line-up, the Capitol Hill Block Party looks to be the event of the Summer around here. What happened to you Bumbershoot? When I see Festivals like Pitchfork, Bonnaroo, and SXSW, I shudder to think what Bumbershoot could become (and frankly, should already be…). P.S. I’m available.

So what’s everyone listening to this Summer? Let’s first take a look at what’s selling at the Capitol Hill Sonic Boom:

1. Wilco “Wilco” (Nonesuch)
2. Regina Spektor “Far” (Sire)
3. Grizzly Bear “Veckatimest” (WARP)
4. Moby “Wait For Me” (Mute)
5. Tiny Vipers “Life On Earth” (Sub Pop)
6. Dinosaur Jr. “Farm” (Jagjaguwar)
7. Mos Def “Ecstatic” (Downtown)
8. The Gossip “Music For Men” import (Columbia)
9. Sonic Youth “The Eternal” (Matador)
10. Bjork “Voltaic” (Nonesuch)

*I can definitely vouch for the Grizzly Bear, Tiny Vipers, and Dinosaur Jr. Not a bad Top 10 people!

My own Summer music has included some cool new discoveries from overseas, and a few new releases from some old favorites. Here’s a few things I’ve had on steady rotation this Summer:

The Twilight Sad – Scotland

Army Navy – California

Sunset Rubdown – Quebec, Canada

We Were Promised Jetpacks – Scotland

Sky Larkin – Leeds, U.K.

Sleeping States – Bristol, U.K.

Thought Forms – U.K.

Wye Oak – Baltimore

Lots of other cool things coming up this Summer. We’ll call it the “Summer of Dagger” if you will. I haven’t made the formal announcement yet, but I’m going to have a very special new writer helping me with Click & Dagger who will no doubt help us take things to the next level. It’s been hard finding someone I trust enough to give up some of the reins, but I’m very excited to be able to share this exciting news with you soon. We are also in the middle of an exciting new site re-design as we begin the transition to our own domain. The talented Alex Crick and Puja Parakh continue to do excellent work with us and will be an instrumental part of our new site. We have some exciting new projects inb store for them as well!

So get out there and enjoy some live music and discover some new music. We’ll help guide your way…

  1. I’ve got to check out these bands. I believe I was also promised a jet pack.
